Getting to Gili Meno without losing the afternoon

Gili Meno is the middle of the three Gili islands, the smallest of them, and the one with the least going on. That is the appeal and also the logistics problem. There is no airport, no bridge and no vehicle with an engine once you land.

From Bali

Fast boats leave from Padang Bai on Bali's east coast and from Serangan near Sanur. Some stop at Meno directly; others go to Gili Trawangan or Gili Air and you take a short island-hopping boat across. Allow two to three hours door to door and do not book anything on the island for the same afternoon that cannot move. The crossing is weather dependent and the operators will cancel in a swell.

From Lombok

Public boats leave Bangsal harbour when they are full, which is a real schedule if you are patient and a fiction if you are not. A private charter from Bangsal or Teluk Nare takes around twenty minutes and can drop you on the west side of the island, close to us, rather than at the main harbour on the east.

Once you are here

Walk. The whole island takes under two hours on foot, and Pomona is on the west coast, a short stroll from the harbour along the beach path. Cidomos, the horse carts, run from the harbour if you have luggage. Bicycles exist but the sand makes them optimistic.
